Venus Rose Stewart did everything a mother could do to protect her children. In Virginia, Venus had a police escort to the airport to return herself, along with her children, to Venus’ parent’s home in Michigan. Venus went through strenuous efforts and obtained an order of protection from the court in Michigan to keep her estranged husband, Douglas Harrie Stewart, away from Venus and her two young daughters. Venus then went back to court on April 19, 2010 and recieved full custody of her children. Venus Rose Stewart died a week later. On April 26, 2010 Douglas Harrie Stewart abducted and murdered Venus. Venus’ family still searches for her remains.
The Venus Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to domestic violence victims and their families. The organization receives and administers charitable funds for the perpetuation of the memory of Venus Rose Stewart, a domestic violence victim.
Funds collected are use for education on domestic violence and assisting in helping by developing and distributing materials, such as posters, information on steps to take when a person becomes missing, mapping information and helping communities form search groups. Search groups would often include canine teams.
Our ultimate goal is to earn enough funds to establish and administer “safe havens” for domestic violence victims.
